CHAMANG WATERFALL

During the Labour day & Wesak holidays, raspal, myself & my collegues decided to visit Chamang waterfalls in Bentong, Pahang. We found out about this place through one of our CEO that wrote about it on our company’s Intranet.

Its really a beautiful place to go and relax but if you go during the weekend it will be crowded with picnic goers & irritating Mat Rempits. The journey will take you through Bentong town. Just as you reach the end of the town there’s an exit on the left that will pass thourgh a kampung area. The road up is very narrow and winding. The trip will take you bout 30 mins from Genting Sempah. The pictures doesn’t really show how incredible this waterfall is, you just have to be there & see it for yourself. The water that flows through the stream is very strong. One should be extremely careful when in the water or you will be swept away. Should always keep to the edge to the stream. Its quite a dangerous waterfall, there has been a number of deaths reported. But if you are carefull and not try to be a hero, you should be ok.

The pictures below were taken in Janda Baik's conifer forest. I really love this place, all that greenry *aaahh*, just need some snow & its PERFECT!

LABUAN, THE OTHERRR ...OTHERRR F.T.

“Forgive me Appus for I have not blogged”. Been quite busy with work and recently joined a gym, so that kind took up most of my free time.

I’m back with another “adventure”. This time it’s Labuan. It was not a holiday trip, it was work related. I was there to link up my project site office to my HQ in Shah Alam. The site is Sumatec’s RM36 Million Megamethanol project. This project is actually is an extension to the existing plant. According to the Project Manager, once completed, it will be the largest Megamethanol plant in the world! Damn, if anything happens to that plant, Labuan will cease to exist on this planet (touch wood).

I’m not going to write about my whole “adventure”, but kind of to give you a brief insight of Labuan . So here we go.

Labuan Island

LABUAN :- The only thing I knew about it is that it’s Federal Territory and near Sabah. After years of living in this country, I honestly didn’t know Labuan was an island!! *sigh* it’s a small island. If you drive, you can cover the whole island, I think, in 1 hour. Very layback town. Occupied mostly by expats.

The road in front of the hotel. That's the Labuan Council building.

Mariner Hotel: Where I Stayed

DAYLIGHT :- There’s no time difference between West & East Malaysia but the sun rises much earlier. I’m not really sure of the time but by the time I woke up (6:30am) it’s as bright as 8:30am over here. Work in Labuan(site) starts at 7:00am & finishes at 6:00pm. By 6:30pm it’s already dark. On both the nights when I was having dinner, I looked at my watch & realized it was not even 7:00pm! but it sure felt much later than that. Have not gotten used to the dusk & dawn thing over there.

HIGH RISE :- A brown Apartment, a silver office building with a 3 story shopping centre called Financial Park and ….THAT’S IT! If you’re lost, just head towards this two buildings. Another interesting landmark is the mosque with a unique design.

7:30am : The only high rise building you can see in Labuan

The An’Nur Jamek Mosque : Looks like a spaceship

THE TOWN:- IT’S SMALL!!! On the 2nd night, after walking about the shopping centre with Jo for 1 hr or so, I went back to the hotel & it was only 8:40pm. I was bored, so I decided to go on an “adventure walk” around town. Only a few shops were opened, Pubs and food stalls. I didn’t know where I was heading - I just walked, wherever there was a road, I walked. It felt like it was 1 a.m. cause the town felt “dead” and it was just 9:00pm. There were so few cars on the road. I practically covered Labuan town on foot in 1hr! Yup that’s how small the town is. Back at the hotel at 10pm.

8:30pm: It's very quite

CRIME :- Based on my “sources” there’s no such thing as snatch theft there. There better not be cause…really WHERE can you hide after the getaway??? So it’s safe to move around. Pedestrians “own” the road so we have to look out for them when we drive instead of the other way round.

FOOD:- I had seafood at a golf resort (not bad), Indian food at Krishna Curry House (very nice) & Indian Muslin restaurant, can’t remember the name that served a variety of Indian cuisine and I was told it is the ONLY place in Labuan you can get Roti Canai!! Poor Labuanese !

VERDICT:- Great place to work for 3 days and alcohol consumers "*ahem* ok no names" & it's cheap.

Sunset at 30,000 feet is breathtaking

Does Look Matter ???

To many ppl, when asked "does looks matter to you?" many will say "Nah... it doesn't matter" or " You are being shallow" or "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" or " Dont judge a book by its cover"...yeah yeah words can say many things but if looks dont matter, then basically you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between someone who is hot and someone who is unattractive (im not gonna use the word Ugly as it seems to be very offensive for some people.... believe me.. I have been hit real hard for using it)...But honestly how many of you dare to stand up and say that "Yes.. looks does matter." Well I just did.. and to be honest, yes it does matter. Im not saying that it is the most crucial thing when looking for a partner, but how can one possibly love someone they are not physically attracted to?

"ohh no no.. i really love her.. but i just cant make love to her you see... im just not attracted to her in that way" ...

ohh pleasee.... enough.

Well I recently had sort of a date which turned out real ugly (ugly as in the situation !!!)What happened you ask?? Well one fine day I decided to reinstall MIRC (its been ages since I went chatting on it) and there was this girl who I was chatting with... well she seem a little interesting... ofcourse as honest as I always am... I gave out details bout myself and what not... However, I did not get the same feedback from the other party.

Anyway after several weeks, the excitement builds up that you wanna meet this person to attach a real face to this virtual world. So generally it starts by the description of the person.. I generally did not have to describe myself as she had already checked me out on friendster.. obviously I tried the same but due to the fact that every detail she told me was a lie.... I could not find anything.

Im sure many of you have chatted online and you would have always imagine the person to be all beautiful and you know attractive n all.. (god knows why we give ourselves too much of hope).. Moreover when the person says she is cute and people around her thinks the same and lots of people are trying to go out with her and the whole works as if she is the winner of Miss World. Anyway i realized that I was being lied to bout her name, place of work, where she stays and everything.. god knows why.. like I am gonna stalk her or something... anyway, due to the nature of my work, I manage to find out everything bout her including some pictures taken in her office.

Ok, lets get back to the description; (in her own words) she is tall, medium in colour, slim (based on her BMI which I was told.. LOL), cute, nice eyes, straight hair and all.... and i think to myself "wow... this is even more interesting..."

You see, when I say looks is important, I mean someone who is atleast pleasant looking..I am not asking for gorgeous supermodels..(well you would know based on my collection of ex-gfs).... Im sure you wouldn't wanna wake up next to something that makes you go like "ohh damn..." right??

Back to my story... as weeks go by, I actually sent her a picture of some people working in her office to find out if she is anywhere in the picture. The picture consist of some very unattractive people in it.. and she claims she is not in the picture. We set a date on when to meet (after much delay and excuses that is). As the date came closer, she told me that she actually put on some weight.. (well I was thinking.. some weight wouldn't make you from normal to obese right?) and also told that she might have given me the wrong impression to me bout her...So I was like. "ohh no... is she backing out?? may be she is feeling bad bout lying n all that"

Anyways, the day finally came. I was waiting to see someone that would look like the description given. We had not decided where to go yet... and just as I was waiting for her in the car at the condo, my friend called me up and invited me to party at Bangsar.. so I told him.. will be there as this is over. And the moment arrives...as there was a high curb on the side of the road, I can only see a pair of legs in pink pants next to the car. And to my horror, it was the total opposite of what I have been briefed on. "Ohh dear.. what is this" I thought to myself.... I was speechless. As I tried hard to swallow my saliva, lots of things rushed in my mind.. namely:

1. Is this the right person??
2. What should I do..??
3. Should I run away
4. Should I make an excuse and vanish...

What would one do ??? She was big in size, short, hunched back, very dark and the list goes on in opposite of what she has told me.... and you know what... she is the same person in the picture which she denied!!!...and I think to myself.. "how can someone lie bout themself up to this extend??" I felt soo disgusted, cheated and betrayed. You know all the excitment just died out...
What did I do next? I called for backup ERT ( Emergency Responce Team) to bail me out of the situation. Well at that time, it seem like the best thing to do as I could not think straight....I could not take another minute driving this person who had lied to me about everything and expect me to have dinner with her?? no way..!! anyway I dropped her off ( after the lie and she knew I made up that emergency situation and has the guts to confront me bout it... damn....and went straight to see my friends and obviously bitched about it.....

And the responce I got :
1. Some felt pity that I was lied to..
2. Come laughed and thought it was a real crazy joke
3. Some shouted at me for calling the ERT saying it was cruel to do such things. They said I am shallow and all that.

But to think of it, do you think what I did was really wrong? I mean I was completely honest with everything.. The things is,I was not prepared to see something soo different from the description. Bottom line is, just be god damn honest and none of this would have happened. And I know personality is more important than looks and all.. but you need to also like what you see right???
Well.. i guess people on IRC are not as honest as they use to be 10 years ago... it was soo much more simpler before...hhmm.....

Door Step To Paradise

Event: Sumatec Family Day & Annual Dinner 2007
Location: Laguna Resort, Redang Island, Terengganu.
Date: 10th to 12th Mar 2007
Participants: 140

Redang island was the venue for my company’s Family Day & Annual Dinner this time around. It was organized by the Sumatec Sport & Recreation Club. I tell you it is a real headache to organize 2 events at the same time. However it was really a good experience in organizing such an event with that many people going.

SSRC

Day 1
We started our journey from Sumatec office on the 9th of Mar at 10:00 pm. We had 3 buses for the trip. The entire journey from Shah Alam to Merang Jetty took us about 10 hours, we had 3 stops during the journey. Reached there at 8:00 am then took the 8:30am ferry to Laguna Resort.

The sea was really choppy, the boat was swaying like crazy and yes I was seasick and so was raspal heheh *bbblluueehhhh*! the mee hoon goreng & sambal ikan bilis that I had 1hr ago for breakfast was the culprit! Man that was the worst feeling in the world. Anyway the ferry ride took 1hr, the longest 1 hr of my life.

When we reached Laguna there was a short briefing at the jetty by the hotel staff then made our way to the hotel. The hotel was facing the most beautiful beach I have ever seen in my life, it was GORGEOUS! CRYSTAL CLEAR water. But I was still feeling shitty & so was Raspal. It took about an 1hr for my body to stabilize itself. Then it was time to enjoy!!!

PARADISE!

Part of the package, there were 3 snorkeling trips but we only took 2 cause the other time slot we had the telematches. On the 1st day we had deep sea snorkeling. My 1st ever snorkeling experience. Once again had to go through that damn boat ride on the rough sea but this time It didn't do any "damage". After a 20min boat ride we reached our snorkeling point, it was near an island. When I got into the water I couldn’t see any corals or fish, could only see the sea bed. It was damn deep! Had to swin a bit towards the island & there they were the corals & fishies! It was incredibly beautiful. It’s like a giant aquarium. There were fishes that came so close that I could almost touch them. Sad to say most of the corals there are dead, no thanks to our beloved mankind. It was not as colorful as it should be, but still amazing to look at. We spent bout an 1hr there before we headed back .

Ready For Snorkeling

Deep Sea Snorkeling

At night we had our Annual dinner. We had performances, games & lucky draw. Me & Raspal got Hamper worth RM150.

The Organizers

Day 2
Morning there was a snorkeling trip to the Marine Park but I & Raspal skipped this. Instead we walked along to the beach to take some photos, relax & enjoy the view because we wouldn’t have any time to do this later.

Me & My Baby

Laguna Resort

"Paradise"...yummmy

In the evening we had our Family Day Telematch for adults & kids. I tell you...it was hilarious! We all had so much fun. The kids telematch was even more interesting. Its got nothing to do with the kids, it was the parents that was kecohing so much *sigh*. We really had a hard time controlling the parents, they took this telematch abit too seriously. At the end of it all we had fun...that’s the main thing.

Telematch was hilarious!

Day 3
We checked out after breakfast & took the 9:00am ferry ride. The sea was still choppy but this time around no seasick (THANK GOD). It took us longer this time to reach Merang, cause halfway our ferry was stopped by the Marine Police, to do a lil spot check. We reached the jetty at 10:30am & boarded the bus & left about 11:00am. It was a long ass ride back! We reached Sumatec office at 9:30pm. Well this was because we had 9 bloody stops!!! Well that’s a whole different story, don’t want to go there (Controversy!).

The Whole Gang

Anyone wants to go to Redang, the best time is May & Jun. Hope to go back there again someday this time when the sea conditions are better.

Appus On A Hunt

Place: Low Yat Plaza
Date: 3rd Feb 2007
Event: Windows Vista Launching / Vista Walk Hunt

Participants:
Kamales
Suren
Pravin
Ruben
Team Name: APPUS

Photos by: Kamalesan
Camera: Nokia 6600

2nd Feb 2007
Me, Pravin & Ruben made our way to KL to spend the night at the Chorus Hotel, “sponsored” by Mr. Suren IS Manager of Hyatt Kuantan, But 1st we had nasi lemak for dinner at Kg. Baru, this place called Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa recommended by Ruben. Quite nice and SPICY but abit on the yeeexpensive side, well it’s KL.

KLCC has to be the most photographed structure in Malaysia and rightly so…that building is magnificent at night. It just lights up the night sky.

We went to the hotel and had a few drinks, well I had a few the rest had more..what to do? Indians what! Hehe…we had this drink called Louis Chevallier XO (sponsored by Pravin), it tasted really good. I LIKE!

{This brandy is a product of distillation of grapes. After ageing this brandy in oak barrels you taste the perfect blend between oak taste and genuine aroma. Main winegrower, using ancient french traditions, issued a delicate blend, that gives to this brandy complex perfumes.}

Lonely im so lonely, I have nobody, To call my owwnnn...

Nasi Lemak + X.O = BBBBUUURRRRPPP

A good drinking session is nothing if not accompanied by “Shaila” & a really good Japanese animated show.

Look at the textureeeeee....

3rd Feb 2007

RISE & SHINE!!
Surprisingly everyone woke up quite early “Thanks to, yours truly : )”. We had to split soon to Low Yat to submit our registration form for the Vista Walk Hunt (in conjunction with the launch of Windows Vista) before the registration closes at 2:00pm. We were well ahead of schedule, arriving at about 11:00 am. We had our brunch, then went back to Low Yat to check out the booths & gather some freebies.

Damn that nasi lemak + X.O really takes a long time to wareoff
4:00 pm we collected our t-shirts for the hunt. Changed into them and walked around Low Yat PROUDLY with out VISTA/BENQ T-shirt with this bag that came together with the free stuff. Seriously, carrying that bag on our shoulders is a real sight to be hold. We looked like “Male Sluts” LOL! It was just hilarious as you will see below. I didn’t realize how funny we looked till I downloaded the photos the next day.

Checkout Pravin ..such Enthusiasm!!!

The warm up...we dont want any cramps now do we?

Hey Ruben …where is the “Control Panel” in windows?

At bout 5:00pm we had our hunt briefing & stuff. We didn’t know what we were suppose to do till then. At about 5:45 we were OFF! Some were running, some was walking…we walked …FAST. It was very interesting the way they did the hunt. They gave us 20 clues and we were suppose to figure out what the clue refers to, mostly name of shops (not as easy as it sounds) and there also 2 things we had to do to earn bonus points. Answers are at 3 stretches of Bukit Bintang. We were given 1 hr 30min to complete the hunt.

It took us about 1hr & 34mins to complete the hunt, we had to finish it before 1hr 45mins or we will be disqualified & every 5 mins after 1hr 30min 1 point will be deducted. Unfortunately we did not manage to complete all the questions but I must say we did pretty well. After the race we realize how hard it is for those guys in Amazing Race to actually win the race & this is nothing compared to that. It looks easy on TV.

Allle leh ….we will do better next time..ok?…don’t cry.

The winner of the race won 2 signed copies of Vista Ultimate by Bill Gates (only 2000 in the world) 2 laptops & other computer stuff. JEALOUS!!!!

Well at the end of the day we had a great time & some Appus bonding time. Hopefully there will be more stuff & fun like this in the near future we will be part of.

Watch out for these faces in the Amazing Race!

Oh yeah forgot to mention … WINDOWS VISTA ULTIMATE IS “THE BOMB”!!!! Go get a copy at Low Yat or a Pirated shop near you. *ahem* wink * wink

2 Hands 1 Foot Goes To Kuantan

Goodbye 2006 Vannacum 2007
Another year has gone by so fast i don’t even got time to let my age nicely "marinate" and absorbed by my body!!! For the 1st time since 1980 I ushered in the New Year in another state. Well that’s the year I moved from Kuantan to Klang. So all this while it was just the klang valley. Here's a lil story of our trip.

30/12/06

Departed from pravin’s place (Subang) at about 12:00noon. We decided to take the Kuala Pilah route to Kuantan. Made a pit stop at Kuala Pilah town for lunch. Had chicken chop (RM6.00) at a really old Chinese shop, probably been there since the town started. They had the old tables, chairs, grandfather clock, an old blue safe & the old guy still uses abacus. Sitting at that shop felt like in a different time zone.

Strike A Pose!!!

Chicken Chop - quite nice

After lunch we continued our journey. The trunk roads here have really great sceneries (“its like New Zealand” – Patricia) unlike the normal highways. Mr. Pravin decided to “test-power” his Vios. Basket almost made us piss in our pants a few times. Top speed reached before i smacked him on the head was 150km/h.

Pravin with his "Britney"

The Proof: 150km/h

"It's Like New Zealand" - Patricia

We made another pit stop somewhere along the way. There were a few people giving us the look when we went across the road and took pictures with the road sign.

As famous as Route 66

No photos please!

After 370 km or so we reached our destination. It took us about 6 hours to reach.

Suren's Crib

After a short rest Mary & Suren took us to a seafood restaurant by the beach for dinner. It was a really nice & romantic place. Good place to take your girlfriend for dinner. The food was good too.

The wind was quite strong. Check out Suren's hair...hahaha

By the beach

CSI TEAM

We headed back to teluk chempedak & went for a lil walk on the beach & played with bubbles!!! Aaaahhh memories…

Pat just loves the camera

Lovely just lovely

Pravin learning the art of blowing bubbles

31/12/06

The last day of the year. We went to Cherating beach took us about 40min to get there. We went there to just chill with Uncle Jack.

Very comfy!

Can you spot the "Jack"?

Lovey bunch of homosapiens...including the cameraman of course

Went back to Teluk Chempedak beach after that (the 1st ever beach hopping) to chill summore and had a lil photography session. Man i tell you the waves at TC was really big and freaky, this is the ending of the monsoon season. I cant imagine when (monsoon) it was at its peak season.

Havin a jolly good time

Chumbawamba!

It was a good night out for all but for the guys starting life at 30 seems to have slowed down now-a-thays. Hhmmmm I guess it’s the case of been there done that. The animal within has been tamed *sob* sob*.

01/01/07
It was time to head back to the hustle and bustle of the city life. I was sad to leave Kuantan just like the last itme I was there. Hhhmmm I don’t know I kinda like that town. I wonder if its got anything to do with being born there. Well anyway went for brunch at I Luv You restaurant. Damn the mee curry there is superb!! Sllllruppp!!! Had a short stop at the dry seafood shop I noticed an interesting name for a shop...

After Austin Powers Fook Yew opened an electrical shop in Kuantan.

On the way back we took another route didn’t know which or what route we were on just followed the sign Kuala Lumpur…and we made it back safely.

Thanks a lot to Suren & Mary for their great hospitality. I’LL BE BACK!!!!
